With a shortage of healthcare workers looming as more tests come back positive – including at least 750 doctors at six major Delhi public hospitals – doctors will not be required to quarantine themselves after completing their functions in the departments of Covid-19, in accordance with the directives of the Union Health Ministry.
In accordance with new guidelines published on Sunday evening, under the title “Regular quarantine of healthcare workers after performing tasks in Covid-19 areas”, it is stated that any quarantine or isolation of healthcare workers other than “stipulated above ”is not justified. . Doctors say it could lead to cross-transmission of the infection.
“Our hospital was only treating Covid-19 patients in the previous wave. This meant that all staff only treated those who already had the infection. In addition, there was a gap of five to seven days after the Covid-19 service where staff remained in isolation, reducing the risk of passing the infection on to others, ”said a resident doctor at Lok Hospital Nayak on condition of anonymity.
On the first day of booster dose collection, a total of 49,307 beneficiaries, including 10,698 in Mumbai, were vaccinated statewide out of the 9.3 lakh people eligible for a booster injection in Maharashtra. Although the response was lukewarm on the first day, officials said they hoped that over the next 3-4 days, attendance for beneficiaries would increase.
Only fully vaccinated beneficiaries who had received their second dose of vaccine by April 10, 2021 are eligible to receive the booster, which the Center has called the “precautionary dose”. Due to the nine-month criteria, only a tiny fraction of frontline and healthcare workers are eligible for the recall.
In total, nearly 9.3 lakh of people in Maharashtra were eligible to take photos on Monday. Following guidelines from the Center, only elderly people with co-morbidities, and not all over 60, were included for the recall.
