Investments are coming to South Los Angeles through “Build Back Better”, the Olympics and other construction projects in the area. Many of those dollars have a local hiring component, and Pastor Shane Scott, president of the Macedonia Community Development Corporation, wants to make sure workers in South LA can take advantage of those employment opportunities.

The Macedonia CDC has partnered with the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters and its Brother’s Keeper program to recruit, train and prepare the local workforce. A Zoom presentation will take place on February 24 at 10 a.m. The public can email [email protected] to get the link to attend the event.

Explaining his motivation for organizing the workshop, Scott said: “In meetings with developers, contractors and lenders, I have had comments that these job creators think there is no skilled labor in South Los Angeles. I wish I could tell you that I didn’t expect the “Establishment” to find a way to divert us from local employment opportunities. I can’t sit back and let this happen.

Scott, who is also the senior pastor of the Baptist Church of Macedonia, invites the public to participate in the training. The program is part of the Macedonia CDC’s mission to “create and implement creative, sustainable, and transformative economic, community, and housing development programs for the greater community of Watts.”
