MSU School of Packaging receives $ 10.8 million donation from Amcor
EAST LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) – Michigan State University School of Packaging has received a donation of $ 10.8 million from Amcor.
The donation will be used to create an endowed faculty position to focus on sustainability and to help renovate the Packing School.
This is the biggest corporate gift the university has ever received.
“We are grateful to Amcor for their support and recognition of MSU’s leadership in packaging education,” said MSU President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., MD. “Sustainability presents enormous challenges and opportunities for the packaging industry, and this gift will help equip the MSU School of Packaging to be a critical contributor to these efforts. “
MSU said the new faculty position will be able to do important research, initiate new collaborative projects, and create new opportunities for students.
“The endowment of a professorship for sustainability and the circular economy represents Amcor’s shared commitment with MSU to excellence and innovation in the future of packaging,” said Matt Daum, director of the MSU School of Packaging.

The students of MSU’s School of Packaging will today be the packaging leaders who will lead this continuing push for responsible packaging tomorrow.
MSU’s packing building was last updated in 1986 and they have said they hope the new renovations will keep them at the top of the pack.
MSU Provost Theresa Woodruff, Ph.D., said he believes teaming up with Amcor will be of great benefit to the university.
“As the first program of its kind, MSU’s School of Packaging has a long history of providing high-quality education to students in the discipline of packaging and conducting research that advances science and technology. the technology of the packaging industry, ”said Woodruff. “This gift will help MSU remain a leader in forming an innovative group of future professionals and entrepreneurs in the packaging industry.”
