“Embezzlement” of funds: Congressman Naushad Solanki calls for CBI investigation
Congress MP Naushad Solanki on Monday called for an investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or Gujarat Crime CID into the alleged embezzlement by leaders of the Cooperative Milk Farmers Union of Surendranagar District ( SDCMPU) in setting up a Rs 100 crore Milk Packaging Unit.
Affirming that no action was taken against the alleged embezzlement of funds worth Rs 65 crore between 2012 and 2014, Solanki told the Gujarat Assembly, “In 2012, SDCMPU was planning to set up a milk packing plant with a capacity of two lakh liters per day. This involved an expected cost of Rs 34 crore which included Rs 7 crore of civil works and Rs 27 crore of mechanical works. But instead, about Rs 100 crore was spent and the milk producers (farmers) filed a complaint. SDCMPU is also known as ‘Sursagar Dairy’.
“The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) – which is the umbrella body of dairy unions in the state that markets milk under the Amul brand, was tasked with the investigation and a report was submitted in 2015″ said Solanki, an MP from Dasada constituency. , added, while raising the issue during a discussion of budget requests.
“Investigation revealed that funds worth Rs 65 crore were misappropriated causing losses to the milk producers union. He suggested that the state government should take action in this regard,” he added.
Solanki also informed the House that despite the Registrar of Cooperative Societies of Gandhinagar requesting an immediate investigation on March 23, 2015 and the Registrar writing a police action letter on May 13, 2016 against the Chairman and Managing Director of Union, no action has been taken.
“On October 16, 2021, I wrote a letter to the Co-op Registrar. To date, I haven’t received a response,” he said, adding that the whole episode had been swept under the rug, causing a loss to the Surendranagar Union Milk Farmers.
“It seems that 1.25 lakh milk farmers in this Union have been cheated,” MLA says calling on Bhupendra Patel’s government to initiate investigation by CID or CBI and take action against perpetrators of the crime.
When State Industries Minister Jagdish Vishwakarma did not address the issue in his response to the House, Solanki stood up and said opposition members expect a response when they raise a problem.
To this, the Minister said, “The Sursagar Dairy case has been investigated, a report has been submitted and an instruction to lodge a police complaint has been given after the contractor n did not perform in accordance with the contract and did not complete the work on time. I have all the answer.
“Illegal” export
Highlighting how small agariyas have been sidelined from salt making in Gujarat, Congressman CJ Chavda claimed that two companies Solaris ChemTech Ltd and Agrocel Industries Ltd have been allocated 75,000 acres in Kutch.
“They were allowed to manufacture bromine, but these two entities are illegally producing and exporting salt. This is not in accordance with the agreement. Although the government withdrew its authorization in 2018, Rs 14,000 crore of salt has been exported over the past four years. Who is behind all this ? We are tired of asking for probes,” Chavda added.
During his speech, Congressman Vikram Maadam cited inaction by state government authorities against private shipbuilder ABG Shipyard which defrauded banks of Rs 23,000 crore.
