Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Group Managing Director Mallam Mele Kyari said the company is committed to commercializing Nigeria’s abundant natural gas resources to support balanced economic growth and job creation. in all the countries.
Kyari spoke in Kaduna during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the NNPC, the Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN) and the Kaduna State government for the use and expansion of the state gas supply.
He said the initiative was aimed at using the country’s abundant gas resources.
He said the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) pipeline projects would soon be completed to further boost gas transportation.
The Gas Use and Expansion Project which is facilitated by the Gas Aggregation Company of Nigeria (GACN) would ensure the participation and long-term support of the Kaduna State Government and key players in the gas sector such as the Nigerian Gas Company (NGC), the Nigerian Gas Company Marketing Company (NGMC) and virtual pipeline companies to provide gas supply assurance to state industries on competitive terms.
Kyari, who led a team that included GACN Managing Director Mr. Olalekan Ogunleye, noted that Kaduna was once a hub for industries, expressed hope that the signing would help provide the gas needed to relaunch some of these industries.
He said that as the world shifts to low-carbon energy, the country’s enormous gas resources will continue to be an important source of clean energy now and in the future.
“There is no better way to produce cheaper and cleaner energy than to deliver gas to the domestic market,” he added.
According to him, the NNPC would continue to engage with stakeholders and partners to secure early markets and ensure that the economic benefits of the AKK pipeline are maximized.
“The NNPC is leading this coordinated effort with state governments and private sector investors to develop a demand framework for immediate and long-term gas supply solutions before the completion of the AKK gas pipeline project,” said Kyari.
In his remarks, the Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Nasiru el-Rufai, said that the state’s gas supply will bring additional sources of energy to businesses and create employment opportunities for them. state residents.
“We warmly welcome this project. Gas offers a cost effective option to power factories, homes and vehicles.
“For the Kaduna State government, this project is a welcome boost to our investment and job creation strategy.
“This will create jobs and provide skills to artisans who will work on gas pipelines and associated infrastructure,” el-Rufai said.
He added that in addition to job creation, “the project will fuel industries that have responded enthusiastically to our investment promotion campaign.”
